COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fayetteville will host a busy weekend from January 16 to 18 featuring a track meet at the Randal Tyson Track Center, live music at venues like JJ's Grill and Moxy, and family activities such as markets and library pop-ups — offering sports, arts, and community events for all.  5 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The U of A is accepting applications for 2026 orientation leaders; eligible undergrads can apply (deadline Feb. 2 at 11:59 p.m.) and will work from May through August with benefits like hourly wages, on-campus housing and dining dollars.  University of Arkansas
  • The University of Arkansas College of Engineering launched a new mentoring registry today that connects alumni with current students seeking guidance and career support in Fayetteville (registration details are on the college website).  University of Arkansas
  • Faculty from the College of Education and Health Professions won the Outstanding Publication Award at the 1909 Conference in Memphis for their study linking empathy and STEM education — the research shows that mixing STEM with literacy supports student empathy.  University of Arkansas
  • Today, the university travel office announced new approval procedures for work travel to areas defined as foreign adversaries, including China (including Hong Kong and Macau) and other designated countries. Travelers must cover expenses for unapproved trips and records will be kept for three years.  University of Arkansas

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The former Powerhouse Seafood & Grill building on University Avenue is being demolished this week for a remote parking lot that will serve a downtown student apartment complex, as City Council approved the plan in May after concerns over additional parking requirements.  Fayetteville Flyer
