ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Doe's Eat Place on Dickson Street caught fire Wednesday night at 11 p.m. on Jan. 14 when a blaze began in its shed and spread to the main building — heavily damaging the shed and destroying merchandise while the main part remains mostly intact with no injuries reported.  5 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend features live music at George's with On The Verge, The Phlegms, and four other bands, a hiphop showcase and big show at Nomad's Trailside, a Broadway performance of The Music Man at Walton Arts Center, and Arkansas Gymnastics will face Auburn Sunday at Bud Walton Arena.  Fayetteville Flyer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • For the third consecutive year, the University of Arkansas earned a spot on TIME Magazine’s Best Colleges for Future Leaders list, ranking among the top 40 public universities. This honor shows its commitment to innovative education and community development.  University of Arkansas
  • Faculty and students from the U of A attended the International Textile and Apparel Association Annual Conference in St. Louis in November, where they presented research projects and ideas on technology, sustainability, and inclusive teaching practices.   • The U of A Department of Health, Human Performance & Recreation will offer free virtual and in-person Youth Mental Health First Aider training sessions through May at various times. Students, faculty & community members are encouraged to register to gain essential skills for addressing mental health and substance use challenges.  University of Arkansas
  • The University of Arkansas reversed its decision to hire Emily Suski as law school dean less than a week after the announcement, citing feedback from external stakeholders. Cynthia Nance will remain as dean through June as officials determine next steps.  NWA Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington County Quorum Court voted 9-6 on Thursday to deny a conditional land-use permit for Gulley Ranch – a site set for a ranch-style event center near Fayetteville. The ruling follows Dec. 22 presentations and nearly 20 public comments addressing the proposed project.  Fayetteville Flyer
