  • Fayetteville residents can explore a weekend full of events Feb. 6–8—ranging from indoor markets at 945 S College Ave to gymnastics at Bud Walton Arena and live music at local venues. The guide lists times, locations, and activities for families and adult outings.  5 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fayetteville-chartered Arvest Bank announced its plan to add bilingual branches for Spanish-speaking customers. Its Springdale branch at 2012 S. Pleasant St. is remodeling now with drive-thru open, while branches in Lawton and Kansas City will soon join the effort.  NWA Business Journal
  • Former Walmart CEO Doug McMillon retired on Feb. 1 after 35 years with the Bentonville retailer and will spend the next fiscal year consulting with John Furner as Walmart begins its AI transformation. He said he looks forward to enjoying a blank calendar and avoiding a political role.  NWA Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dan Boice will present his lecture on Arkansas place names and his book, Naming Arkansas, this Thursday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Pryor Center (1 E. Center St., Suite 120), where guests can buy and sign copies.  University of Arkansas
  • Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will perform a 90-minute live show featuring dance routines plus a Q&A session on Thursday, Apr. 23 at the Walmart AMP in Northwest Arkansas. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Feb. 5 after presales open Tuesday.  Fayetteville Flyer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council reviewed a request to rezone a 9-acre site near Crossover and Zion for a large grocery store+gas station with added public seating+bike trail. They will reconvene Feb. 17 at City Hall to address concerns over traffic, drainage, and design.  Fayetteville Flyer

  • Lou Holtz (89) entered hospice care over the weekend, as confirmed by his son Skip. The former Razorbacks coach recently attended last fall's Arkansas-Notre Dame game and kept in touch with former players.  Fayetteville Flyer
