CULTURE NEWS

  • The city's Parks & Recreation department has announced the 2026 Gulley Park Concert Series. The free outdoor concerts, open & accessible to all, will begin Thursday, June 4 at Gulley Park in east Fayetteville at 7 p.m. and feature a vendor fair with local artisans.  Fayetteville Flyer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Dr. James C. Atherton Endowed Award will support full-time agricultural education majors at Dale Bumpers College after a $25,000 gift from George and Susan Atherton. Eligible students must have at least 60 credit hours and a 2.5 GPA (with preference for future Arkansas educators).  University of Arkansas

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville is conducting a controlled burn today at Woolsey Wet Prairie Sanctuary at 11:30 a.m. The burn on a 64.5-acre tract—bordered by Broyles Road, 54th Avenue and Persimmon Street—will last up to four hours and is part of a prairie restoration effort.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • The UA Board approved Dr. C. Lowry Barnes as UAMS chancellor on Thursday, Feb. 5, following his time as interim chancellor, and he will guide the medical center’s growth in education, research and patient care.  NWA Business Journal

  • Keturah White, a stroke survivor with three strokes and open heart surgery, is urging Fayetteville women to care for their heart during National Go Red for Women Day. She has spoken with lawmakers in Washington, D.C. to stress the importance of self-care.  5 News

  • Chef Vince Pianalto from Brightwater in Bentonville visited 5NEWS on Thursday to share easy recipes for puff pizza, teriyaki wings, and spiced mixed nuts to help guests prepare for Super Bowl LX as the Patriots & Seahawks meet on Sunday, Feb. 8.  5 News

  • Arkansas baseball was picked to finish fourth in the SEC after LSU, Texas and Mississippi State, and four Razorbacks made the preseason all-conference teams (including first-team catcher Ryder Helfrick and second baseman Cam Kozeal).
