CULTURE NEWS

  • The U of A Department of Animal Science will host Boots, Brews and BBQ on March 13 and 14 at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center—pitmasters from near and far will vie for the state barbecue title as ticket proceeds support student programs.  University of Arkansas
  • The Orchid Society of the Ozarks will host its 15th annual Orchid Show and Sale from March 6 to March 8 at the Pauline Whitaker Equine Center on the U of A campus. Growers from five states will display blooming orchids and offer free classes on orchid care.  University of Arkansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • David Rand, a professor of natural history at Brown University, will explain how mitochondrial and nuclear genes interact to shape energy traits in a seminar hosted at CHEM 0144 on Feb. 25 (12:55 p.m.). Attendees can join in person or via Zoom and enjoy pizza and beverages.  University of Arkansas
  • The University of Arkansas School of Law has awarded five endowed professorships to faculty members Amanda Hurst, Will Foster, Annie Smith, Carol Goforth (recognized for her work in cryptoasset regulation) and Robert Anderson on Monday, Feb. 23.   • Chancellor Charles Robinson and Provost Indrajeet Chaubey will host a coffee event with faculty on Tuesday, March 3, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Mullins Library (RSVP by 5 p.m. Feb. 25) to foster small-group discussions on supporting faculty success.  University of Arkansas
  • Kimberly Williams, a Fayetteville native and U of A alumna, becomes the new director of Counseling and Psychological Services. She brings nearly a decade of mental health leadership experience to expand campus services for students and staff — working to create a supportive environment.  University of Arkansas
