CULTURE NEWS

  • The UA’s Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral & Visual History will collect community stories about Maxine’s Tap Room, a local bar turning 76 next month, on March 8 at Fayetteville Public Library in room 402 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.- people unable to attend may submit their memories online.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Two Arkansan winners of Top Model are spotlighted in a Netflix documentary (Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model) that revisits memorable moments from the show.   • The Language and Culture Connections Fair will be held Tuesday, March 3 at 11 a.m. in the International Connections Lounge at the Arkansas Union. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Researchers from UA and partner institutions mapped rice stink bug genetics to track insecticide resistance that costs rice growers millions; they found the native species shows more variation than invasive bugs in Florida (which may guide better pest management strategies).  University of Arkansas

  • UA hospitality management students will host SMASH: Arkansas Derby on March 14 at the Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences from 6 to 9 p.m. The event offers Derby-inspired dining and entertainment to raise funds for scholarships and program resources.  University of Arkansas
  • M.J. Ferguson, a political science senior at the U of A, was selected for the 2026 Ralph Bunche Summer Institute at Duke University (he will join research and writing workshops, develop statistical skills, and network with professionals in preparation for graduate studies).  University of Arkansas
  • Faculty and graduate students from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness took part in the SAEA Annual Meeting (Feb. 1-4) in Louisville, where two faculty received top honors for lifetime achievement and outstanding dissertation work, highlighting their role in advancing Arkansas agriculture.  University of Arkansas
  • Professor Kartik Balachandran (associate dean for research at UA) will be inducted as a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors in June, recognizing his work on organ-on-chip systems that has yielded four patents and three pending applications.  University of Arkansas

  • The Razorbacks beat in-state rival Arkansas State 1-0 in a pitchers duel Wednesday, with a walk and error moving Ryder Helfrick to score and strong relief pitching limiting hits; Coach Dave Van Horn said the team will maintain its rotation for this weekend’s home series against UT Arlington.  The Arkansas Traveler
