  • Over 1,300 students passed through Bud Walton Arena during Walton College’s spring business career fair where 113 companies offered summer internships and full-time positions+ many employers held interviews the following day that resulted in job offers. Students prepared with resume reviews and pitch practice from the Career Connections Office, which boosted their confidence for future opportunities.  University of Arkansas

CRIME NEWS

  • A Springdale man, 22, was sentenced Tuesday in Fayetteville to 40 years in prison—over 18 years of which were suspended—for his role in kidnapping a man at gunpoint, stealing his car and robbing his friends during three felony cases.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Arkansas House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday to pause the state's Report Card system used to rate schools. The law temporarily stops the grading system that state education officials rely on.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Cassie Riddick, a communication junior, was named a finalist for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship and will be interviewed in Nashville this week — she is the 19th finalist from U of A in the last 11 years. Riddick, a non-traditional student and single mother who earned her associate’s degree from NorthWest Arkansas Community College, hopes to join the group of 60 Truman Scholars when winners are selected — a move that highlights her strong record of advocacy.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville Mayor Molly Rawn delivered her first state of the city address after taking office 10 weeks ago—she highlighted steps to cut red tape, speed up permitting by one third by the third quarter, and improve the 71B Corridor Project to boost housing growth. She also said she will propose a bond issue for water and sewer system upgrades and work with local partners and the University of Arkansas on a new downtown master plan.  5 News

  • The start of the U.S. Pro Cup cycling event at Centennial Park is delayed from today to tomorrow because high winds reached 40 mph—race director Ty Kady said the event will now run for four days from Thursday through Sunday.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
