CULTURE NEWS

  • The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas will close its 2024-25 season on April 19 with “American Voices: Rhapsody in Blue” at Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville. Music Director Paul Haas will conduct his final performance after 15 seasons—announcing a national search for his successor later this spring—and Stewart Goodyear will perform George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue along with works by William Grant Still and Florence Price.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • The Walton Arts Center announced the Broadway Series for next season with a Neil Diamond opener—A Beautiful Noise set for Fayetteville. The lineup includes new works like Kimberly Akimbo and Water for Elephants along with familiar shows such as Some Like It Hot, Mamma Mia, and And Juliet plus five bonus productions.  The Free Weekly
  • Matt McCraw of River Ridge Builders is restoring a historic log structure at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park that was fashioned as a church and shows 1800s life—its restoration will be complete this spring.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Joy Harjo, a 73-year-old indigenous artist and musician, will speak at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art on March 23 at 4 p.m.—her lecture is part of the closing events for the American Sunrise exhibition.  The Free Weekly

  • On March 20, the Arkansas House of Representatives passed a bill that will allow up to $50M a year in matching grants for water and sewer projects — funds that local communities will use to fix aging infrastructure.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
