CULTURE NEWS

  • Lacy Post and Mischa Hutchings launched the Live from the Liars Table series at Fenix Arts on Feb. 4 where actors read anonymous break-up stories by local writers to make theater more accessible. They will hold the next show, Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda, on April 8 at Fenix Arts at Mount Sequoyah & hope to bring together writers & performers from all backgrounds.  The Free Weekly
  • Fayetteville is hosting a busy spring break weekend with sold-out music shows featuring Stephen Wilson Jr.—performing at George’s on Friday—and other concerts including a Metallica tribute at JJ’s Live and a funk show at The Momentary. Other events include a drag bingo on Saturday, a three-band lineup at Waystone Pizza, a Farmers’ Market Spring Fling tune-up, the final run of TheatreSquared’s Twelfth Night, and a Razorback Softball game at Bogle Park.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • On April 17 at 6:30 p.m., the Arkansas Cinema Society will show an advance preview of A24’s fantasy epic 'The Legend of Ochi' at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts—this event is part of its Sneaks Series.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • In January, the Folk School of Fayetteville started slow sessions to help new musicians learn bluegrass and Irish tunes in a friendly jam setting—volunteer teachers taught chord patterns and jam etiquette to boost confidence in playing together.  The Free Weekly
  • The U.S. Air Force’s Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble from the Band of Mid-America will begin a series of free concerts in Arkansas starting April 5, with shows set in Springdale, Fayetteville, and Centerton featuring active-duty airmen from Scott Air Force Base. The Fayetteville performance will be at 7 p.m. on April 6 and each concert will last about 75 minutes.  The Free Weekly

  • Jeremy Baranauskas runs PrairieWoods Farm in Sulphur Springs and grows organic crops all year to supply local stores such as Ozark Natural Foods in Fayetteville — he faces challenges as he plans to expand his operation.   Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers are reviewing several energy and environment bills this session, including Senate Bill 466 that would limit wind turbines to 150 feet statewide and a measure to expand tax exemptions for large data centers. Lawmakers will consider these proposals in upcoming committee hearings — with industry and environmental groups voicing concerns — as legislative work continues.  Arkansas Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After spring break, lawmakers will use the remaining two and a half weeks of session to propose policies that limit ballot initiatives, reduce government openness, and push for more state control. Critics say these changes may weaken local input in education and housing—issues that have drawn concern from Fayetteville residents.  Arkansas Times

  • After the Arkansas men's basketball team won on Saturday night to reach the Sweet 16, the Hog Wild band will see the team off tonight at their hotel before traveling to San Francisco for the game—Senior Juan Pareja said the win brought both excitement and stress.  4029 News
