- ➤ Fayetteville Public Library is waiving overdue fees during Amnesty Week—running from April 6 to April 12—as long as items are returned in good condition and patrons contact library staff for fee forgiveness. The library noted that its last event in 2023 recovered 270 overdue items—valued at about $5,000. 4029 News

- ➤ John Stephens’ Barnaby Group will build a new restaurant called The Lady in LR Heights with a fireplace-lit dining room, rooftop and street-level patios, and two full bars at 5700 Kavanaugh Boulevard, slated to open early 2027. The group will also launch South School, a nature-based hospitality retreat in Fayetteville featuring a 45-seat dining room and a farm-driven menu with an on-site brewery, estimated to open in spring 2026 — additional forest cabins and event spaces will follow. - ➤ Arvest Bank received nominations from local businesses and an independent panel chose four finalists in each of four categories plus a luncheon to announce the winners will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 9 at the Holiday Inn in Springdale; profiles will be posted on Monday and Tuesday. - ➤ The School of Art will host its first annual art education symposium at the newly restored Fine Arts Center from April 10 to April 12. Gloria J. - ➤ Historian Janet Allured has published a book—Southern Methodist Women and Social Justice: Interracial Activism in the Long Twentieth Century—that tells the stories of nine Methodist women who fought for reform long after the Progressive Era and includes the work of Fayetteville native Theressa Hoover. - ➤ Professor Najja K. Baptist — director of African and African American studies at the U of A — was appointed the Sylvia G. Swartz Endowed Chair in Political Science and his term will begin this July. University of Arkansas
- ➤ Faculty Appreciation Week starts today as the University of Arkansas offers giveaways, events and discounts exclusively for U of A faculty, including free coffee at Hill Coffee, a meet-and-greet in Mullins Library from 9 a.m. to noon and dining discounts that require a university ID — all designed to recognize faculty achievements. - ➤ A $50,000 gift from U of A alumnus Chris Oliver and his wife Ginger created the Chris and Ginger Oliver Land of Opportunity Scholarship Endowment to help students overcome financial barriers. - ➤ A Senate committee will review a bill this week that would require state insurance plans to cover FDA-approved Alzheimer’s treatments, including Leqembi (lecanemab), for state and public school employees diagnosed in the early stages. The measure passed the House with a 74-10 vote and is expected to ease the high out-of-pocket costs that some, like retired teacher Steve Daniels, have faced. 5 News
