  • On April 3, Spellebration, the annual event to support AR Kids Read, changed its usual spelling bee format into a trivia contest at the Chenal Event Venue where guests answered questions on their smartphones—Mary and Jim Wohlleb earned the Bee the Difference Award for volunteer tutoring and Dr. Chad Rodgers received the Community Leader Award while Legacy Termite Pest Control sponsored the event.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • ICANWA held its annual Holi Festival on Saturday at The Momentary in Bentonville to celebrate cultural equality and welcome spring—using natural colored powders for safety and marking the triumph of good over evil. The third-year event, in partnership with Crystal Bridges, brought together diverse communities from across the region.  5 News
  • Canadian folk singer Scott Cook will perform a special concert with partner Pamela Mae at 7 p.m. on April 20 at Omni Center following a successful September show at the Folk School.   • Fayetteville City Council will consider a proposal on April 15 to rename North Plantation Avenue to North Garden and West Chattel Street to West Reflection in the Heritage Village subdivision—affecting 32 addresses and updating road signs and city records.  5 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No.1 University of Arkansas baseball team lost 7—6 to No.6 Georgia on Saturday, ending a 12-game SEC winning streak and evening the series at 1—1. The deciding game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. today.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • On Saturday morning, hundreds of runners kicked off the 49th Hogeye Marathon at the Apollo Theater on Emma Ave, with about 2000 participants competing in full, half, and relay races that covered a route through Springdale, Fayetteville, and Johnson at 7 a.m. Today, the 5k and 10k runs continue with volunteers, water stations, and high school bands supporting the event—which is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon and benefits charities like Meals on Wheels and the American Wheelchair Mission.  4029 News
