CULTURE NEWS

  • Fayetteville artist Jason Jones nearly finished a 90-foot mural on the north side of a student housing complex under construction along Center Street near Razorback Greenway. The artwork is part of a new multi-story apartment project by Trinitas Ventures that replaced longtime local businesses.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • On April 1, Korean for Travelers students crafted miniature irworobongdo screens and enjoyed yuja-cha in class with Sung Hye Yang; on April 22, the Department of World Languages will host a public Korean art song and kimbap workshop at the World Languages and Digital Humanities Studio (JBHT 207).  University of Arkansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U of A’s Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Technology Ventures is hosting the Arkansas Commercialization Retreat from June 1-3 at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute; registration is required by April 17. Faculty and experts will lead workshops on research commercialization and funding opportunities (helping transform ideas into ventures).  University of Arkansas
  • The university’s Youth Protection Office is updating its campus policies during National Child Abuse Prevention Month to strengthen student safety with resources, training and a confidential reporting system - guidelines now available via Fayetteville Policies and Procedures.  University of Arkansas
  • The Planning Commission approved the development of the new Ramay Junior High near College Ave and Poplar Street after months of community debate over sidewalk safety and environmental concerns. The school is set to open in August 2029, with a possible earlier opening in August 2028.  5 News
  • On March 7, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science hosted its 20th annual High School Programming Contest at U of A, drawing 58 students from 10 schools who solved programming problems under time pressure + effective teamwork led Fayetteville High School to win.  University of Arkansas
  • Eleanor Mann School of Nursing's online MSN program was named among the top programs in the nation by The Princeton Review. Assistant director Michele Kilmer said the ranking underlines the school's commitment to preparing nurse leaders — a priority for serving rural and medically underserved areas.  University of Arkansas
  • Katie McKay, the third McKay sibling to graduate from the U of A College of Engineering, changed her focus to biological engineering after discovering a passion for water quality. She will start as a staff engineer at Hawkins-Weir Engineers — designing water systems to better serve local communities.  University of Arkansas

  • The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission has announced a statewide plan to restore wetlands across local counties. The initiative expands efforts beyond George H. Dunklin Jr. Bayou Meto Wildlife Management Area — aiming to improve local habitats.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • U of A Speech and Hearing Clinic celebrates World Voice Day by emphasizing vocal health and showcasing advanced voice research. Clinic director Jessica Danley and faculty member Zoë Thijs stress the importance of caring for voices in patient care + student training.  University of Arkansas

  • On Tuesday, April 14, the No. 5 Arkansas men's golf team dropped from early third place to finish sixth at the Mountaineer Invitational in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
