BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fayetteville-based White River Bancshares reported record first-quarter earnings on April 15th as net income jumped to $2.62 million from last year's first quarter. The bank said loan growth boosted net interest income and deposits rose almost 19% year-over-year—further fueling its strong start to the year.  NWA Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Due to severe weather in the state, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders extended the tax filing deadlines for all 75 counties—state income taxes are now due July 31 while federal taxes are due Nov. 3 with interest deferred until then. The IRS also issued an extension after widespread storms caused flooding and tornado damage across Arkansas.  Arkansas Times
  • Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Tuesday that she formally submitted a request to the federal government (to stop food stamp benefits from being used for sodas and candy) as part of a move to restrict 'non-staple' food purchases.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Tuesday night, Fayetteville City Council discussed two ordinances that affect neighborhoods — one to rename two streets in Heritage Village affecting 32 homes and another to let the planning commission review parking requirements for new developments. The council delayed the street renaming until January 2 to gather more community input.  4029 News
