ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 20, severe storms damaged about 25 homes in Hughmont Village with roof punctures, fence damage, and broken car windows that left a few residents displaced while neighbors, the Fire Department, and insurance claim filers worked quickly to begin repairs & report electrical issues.  5 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Champions of Magic will perform live at Baum Walker Hall at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville on April 23 at 7 p.m.—a family-friendly show featuring illusionists Richard Young of Young & Strange, fourth-generation magician Liberty Larsen, and escape artist Fernando Velasco—and will charge $39 to $82 for tickets.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Terry Borman—a retired violin maker known for his mix of art and science—crafted one-of-a-kind instruments over a 40-year career, and his work is loved by many musicians.   • Fayetteville’s TheatreSquared is premiering a new original play titled In the Grove of Forgetting about a concert pianist in 1938 Budapest who risks everything amid rising Nazi terror—written by Robert Ford and starring Amy Herzberg.   • Monica Moore’s Hearts Project: A Third Dimension is on display at Life Styles Blair Center in Springdale until May 2, where a new panel honoring the shut-in experience during the pandemic is featured. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the U of A launches Earth Week with a Bird Safe walk at 8:00 a.m. at Union Mall, a lunch compost crew at the Union Food Court, and a lecture on sustainable design at Vol Walker Hall. Tuesday, Earth Day will feature a celebration and farmers market with creative activities at Union Mall — along with poster presentations and a play that highlights campus sustainability efforts.  University of Arkansas
  • East Fork Wilderness Area—known for fishing, canoeing, horseback riding and deer/turkey hunting—shows the rich natural ecology of our region, a favorite spot for local outdoor enthusiasts.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas sprinter Jordan Anthony broke his 100-meter record at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., finishing in 9.98 seconds to beat the previous mark of 10.03 set by Lance Lang—he dedicated his win to his late aunt. Razorbacks teammates made strong debuts in other events—building momentum for upcoming meets in Fayetteville.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas women’s track team traveled to Gainesville for the Tom Jones Invitational on Friday and Saturday and won the 1,600-meter relay—Kaylyn Brown, Sanaria Butler, Rachel Glenn, and Rosey Effiong ran a season-fast time of 3:23.69.
