COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bentonville-based Single Parent Scholarship Fund reached 55% of its challenge goal after a $200,000 donation from F1RSTNB, with funds now being raised until May 20 to support a new 13,000 sqft headquarters in Springdale & help single-parent families. The campaign, launched in June 2025, will expand services in Benton, Carroll, Madison, and Washington counties.  NWA Business Journal
  • A new memorial honoring fallen officer Stephen Carr was unveiled Tuesday at the Jordan Annex on Rock Street, the site where he was killed in 2019. The landscaped area now features benches, plantings and a metal monument displaying his name and badge number.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • NWA Burger Week will run May 3-9 across Fayetteville and neighboring communities, featuring 37 restaurants offering $12 specialty burgers (with $1 per sale donated) to benefit NWA Food Bank; local foodie Joseph Nguyen organized the fundraiser to raise $5,000 for food security.  Fayetteville Flyer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Swarm Aero opened an 80,000 sqft advanced manufacturing center at Drake Field in Fayetteville to build large drones for defense and plans to hire more staff as production expands. However, a local board appeal on its license use may delay operations until the city council rules on the issue.  NWA Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • CACHE invested over $495,000 in area artists and arts organizations in 2025, increasing audience numbers at its creative space (The Medium) by 7,000 and expanding its Creative Exchange Fund from 32 to 37 recipients. The report shows the investment strengthened Northwest Arkansas's creative economy.  NWA Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Assistant professor Jake Dionne of the U of A was named the recipient of the Janice Hocker Rushing Early Career Research Award by the Southern States Communication Association today—honoring his work in environmental and legal communication, including bison restoration. He earned national recognitions after joining in 2020.  University of Arkansas
  • Two Fay Jones School students have been named to Metropolis magazine's Future100 list that honors top design talent from across North America. Burns, a fourth-year student planning to start her career at Corgan (Dallas), and recent graduate Kalkstein, now apprenticing in Florence, strengthen the school’s legacy.  University of Arkansas
  • Fay Jones School of Architecture received a $1.5 million gift from alumnus Dan Tate and his wife Terry that establishes a scholarship (covering full tuition and fees) for financially needy undergraduates. The award gives preference to students from the St. Louis area.  University of Arkansas

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas launched a 25-year solar project today that aims to lower rising costs and expand renewable energy use. The Fayetteville facility on North Riches Drive, featuring 1,200 panels, already powers campus energy while 20 sites in total will be finished by next year.  4029 News

  • A Best Therapies survey reveals 71% of Americans feel overstimulated from screen time, with Gen Zers averaging 8.4 hours daily; 53% report trying to cut back this year. Fayetteville counselor Erica Walter says noting screen habits—such as sensory overload—can help people manage anxiety.  5 News
