COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local churches are seeking volunteers to assemble 1,000 blessing bags with hygiene items and snacks for unsheltered neighbors this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Yvonne Richardson Center (240 E. Rock Street); donations of toothpaste and bottled water can be dropped off at the church on W. North Street anytime before May 1.  Fayetteville Flyer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fast-casual restaurant Goodcents opened a new 2,740 sqft shop at 3061 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville. Owned by Cory and Lyndsy Jacobs, the shop employs 15 staff and serves fresh, high-quality sandwiches made with its signature Founder’s Pride bread (a long-held tradition).  NWA Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local funk band Punkinhead is reuniting for one night on Halloween, Oct. 31, at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville with opening by locals Ted Hammig and the Campaign (featuring Freeman Boatright); tickets are $14.22 and selling fast.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Writer Boyce Upholt from New Orleans launched his biannual magazine Southlands to showcase Arkansas’s natural beauty & rich traditions. The glossy 140-page debut in October featured 28 local contributors and the second issue is set to publish in May.  Arkansas Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two dozen Fayetteville High School seniors will sign letters of intent to play collegiate athletics today at FHS Bulldog Arena (10:30 a.m.), district officials said, with students committing to sports including basketball, cheer, track, dance, football, soccer and swim/dive.  Fayetteville Flyer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • USDA awarded funds for plant pest prevention with nearly $1 million designated for Arkansas pest surveys, The Nature Conservancy restored over 1.58 million acres of shortleaf pine forests in the Ozarks and Ouachitas using targeted methods, and the Arkansas Index closed Tuesday slightly lower at 1,116.73 amid slower investor activity.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Planning Commission approved a plan on Monday for the Next Chapter neighborhood, a 274-unit rental community of single-family homes on 49 acres on Raven Lane near Underwood Park, built on the former Razorback Golf Course. The project will include one- to four-bedroom homes with design variances (for street-facing arrangements).  Fayetteville Flyer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Two Arkansas track and field athletes earned SEC honors Tuesday as Rivaldo Marshall set a career-best 800-meter time (ranking nationally) while Abdoul Sy-Savane posted his best in the 110 hurdles at the John McDonnell Invitational; the Razorbacks rank No. 1 and will compete at the LSU Invitational on May 2.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Ten Razorbacks joined NFL rosters following the draft as four were selected and six signed free agent deals. Senior defensive back Julian Neal was picked by the Seattle Seahawks, and running back Mike Washington Jr.—the first Hog drafted since 2018—was taken by the Raiders.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • The Arkansas men’s tennis team earned an NCAA Tournament bid on Monday despite learning last Friday that its program would be dissolved at season's end — they will face Cornell Friday at 2 p.m. at Fort Worth, and the athletic director said scholarships will be honored through graduation.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Chris Brooks took over as gymnastics head coach Tuesday after his wife, former coach Jordyn Wieber, resigned to focus on family (and pursue new opportunities) while he vowed to motivate the team with an enthusiastic style and retain key assistants.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Razorbacks held their spring Red—White scrimmage at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium Saturday, winning 14 to 13. KJ Jackson led the offense as key defensive plays showed improvement, and the team will begin the regular season at home on Sep. 5 against North Alabama.  The Arkansas Traveler
