COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fayetteville’s Walker Park Splash Pad and Gulley Park Interactive Fountain will open Saturday and run daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Sept. 21 as warmer temperatures and sunny skies arrive—at Walker Park, visitors can enjoy floor geysers, spray features and a large dump bucket while Gulley Park offers an interactive fountain with expanded playground facilities and renovated restrooms featuring installations by local artist Eugene Sargent.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Fayetteville Strawberry Festival will be held Sunday, May 18 from 12 to 6 p.m. on Fayetteville square. The second-year event will feature live music, food trucks, a pie-baking competition, a dog parade, and an interview with Murial Fahrion — key details also include over 50 local vendors and active participation from nearby businesses — and is expected to draw a large audience.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • The city announced that Walker Park Splash Pad and Gulley Park Interactive Fountain will open Saturday for the 2025 summer season, running daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Sept. 21. Walker Park offers floor geysers and spray features while Gulley Park provides a renovated playground and updated restrooms (including artwork by Eugene Sargent) as mostly sunny skies and rising temperatures from the mid-70s to mid-80s are expected.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arts Live Theatre presents Matilda Jr. at The Medium in Springdale from May 8 to May 11 — performances start at 7 p.m. on May 8 and 9, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on May 10, and at 2 p.m. on May 11. The play adapts Roald Dahl’s classic tale with a cast of young actors who will deliver humor and heart on stage.  The Free Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville holds spring commencement ceremonies as Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences begins at 3 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena and Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences starts at 3:30 p.m. in Barnhill Arena. Saturday ceremonies will include a graduate commencement at 8:30 a.m. in Bud Walton Arena along with events for the College of Engineering, College of Education and Health Professions, Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, Sam M. Walton College of Business, and the School of Law.  4029 News

  • Fayetteville will close both lanes of Maple Street from Leverett Avenue to Gregg Street on Monday as Phase 1 of the Safe Streets and Roads for All project starts—detour signs will guide motorists through the closure until early August.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • The No. 5 Arkansas softball team advanced to the SEC Tournament semifinals with a 6-1 win over No. 4 Tennessee on Thursday—marking their deepest run since winning in 2022. Junior pitcher Robyn Herron threw a complete game by striking out nine batters—and the team will face No. 1 seed Oklahoma today at 3 p.m. on ESPN2.  4029 News
