Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 11th of May.
Good morning, Fayetteville.
Saturday afternoon, Friends of Palestine NWA held a vigil in Fayetteville to honor 28 children who died in a Gaza camp after local fundraiser Marriah Berquist raised money to support families in need.
Berquist said the event shows aid recipients, including 17-year-old Jana, that they are recognized and valued—helping keep hope alive amid ongoing hardship.
Bernie Babcock launched the quarterly 'Little Rock Sketch Book' in July 1906 to showcase local art, literature, and businesses while managing the magazine with a small team from the community.
She later moved to Chicago for work, and her groundbreaking efforts helped build Arkansas culture+history.
Local groups in Fayetteville are hosting many events this week — from Recovery Demystified’s sober support groups and karaoke today to OLLI classes starting May 12 on topics like keeping computers safe and making art.
Museums and community clubs will also hold art shows, a bourbon tasting benefit on May 17, a free museum day on May 24, new leadership hires, a 40,000 dollars dental care grant to help low-income patients, and grants to support small arts organizations.
The UA athletic department will hold a four-day goodwill tour starting Monday at noon at Brothers Meethouse in Bentonville and continuing at sites in Batesville, Searcy, Memphis, Stuttgart, Little Rock, Hot Springs, and Conway—meeting Razorback fans and answering questions about the upcoming season while raising ticket and donation prices to cover financial needs. The tour comes as the school adjusts its budget amid changes from NIL deals and new media policies.
