- ➤ On May 16, the U of A will host the inaugural Florence Price International Piano Competition to honor the first Black woman to have a symphony performed by a major orchestra—an event that invites young pianists from undergrad and graduate programs to compete and learn from top judges. Judges from Berklee, Southern Methodist University and the University of Kansas will lead masterclasses and lectures, and the opening concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Giffels Auditorium with free admission for all. - ➤ D Sewell and SpidaCrazy8 will emcee Walton Arts Center’s free Hip Hop 101 showcase on May 14 at 6 p.m.—57 students from four local schools will perform original hip hop work as part of an after‐school program that gives young artists a chance to learn from local music professionals. - ➤ Graduation ceremonies for River Valley high schools are scheduled in Northwest Arkansas from today through May 22 with events at local venues. Some schools already held their ceremonies on Monday while others, like Future School of Fort Smith and Rogers Heritage High School, will hold events at places such as Bud Walton Arena — all planned to honor graduating students. - ➤ High school senior Drew Holland from Greenwood received the Black and Reeder Scholarship+ he will study biomedical engineering at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville after graduating on May 16.
