ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At least four tornadoes struck Washington County Monday night amid heavy rain and severe thunderstorms, toppling trees and power lines and leaving nearly 24,000 customers in Washington County and 7,200 in Madison County without power + crews in Fayetteville and nearby areas worked to assess damage + officials confirmed no injuries. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Leaders of UA System campuses are proposing tuition and fee hikes for 2025-26—while UA Grantham will keep costs flat. The UA System board of trustees will review these proposals Wednesday and Thursday at Cossatot Community College. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Fayetteville Public Schools will install metal detectors this fall at the high school and two junior highs to screen for weapons without forcing students to empty their pockets. The district acted after past incidents with guns on campus and will use funds from its safety budget and grants—officials say the move will help keep students safe without slowing the flow at entrances. - ➤ Fayetteville has scheduled public meetings this week, starting Monday with the Advertising & Promotion Commission session at Town Center and a City Council work session at City Hall, and today includes a City Hall Art Exhibition Review at 2 p.m. Additional sessions on Thursday will cover Planning, Housing Authority, and Long Range Planning Committee meetings held at City Hall or via Zoom—Friday has no meetings listed. - ➤ A legislative panel on Monday endorsed the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s request for $15 million in state restricted reserve funds to support the community assistance grants program—final approval will be considered by the Legislative Council on Thursday while applications remain open through July 31.
