BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pharmacy giant CVS will close its 23 Arkansas stores by year-end after Gov. Sarah Sanders signed a law last month banning drug middlemen from owning pharmacies—this rule forces the chain to change its business operations.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Opera in the Ozarks is set to start its 75th anniversary season in a new 300-seat theater built with a $34M Walton Family Foundation grant near Eureka Springs; the season will run from June 27 to July 25 and include 21 staged performances — free Family Day tours are planned for June 29.  Fayetteville Flyer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fayetteville Public Schools will install walk-through metal detectors at three campuses — Fayetteville High, Ramay Junior and Woodland Junior — in the fall to strengthen campus safety. The OPENGATE detectors will quickly scan for metal without delay as school staff monitor alerts for any issues.  5 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fayetteville is asking residents to share ideas for a new aquatic facility as part of its ongoing study, with an online survey open until June 8th + an in-person feedback session at the Public Library on June 4th at 6 p.m. The study follows recommendations from the 2023 Park and Recreation System Master Plan to update local pool resources.  City of Fayetteville

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas was awarded a $10 million grant from Arkansas DHS to build a crisis hub that will handle 9—8—8 calls and support mobile crisis teams across the community. Only $2 million will fund the hub while $8 million will boost outreach, with the call center set to be finished by the end of August and seven pilot sites launching by the end of 2026.  4029 News

  • State finals for baseball, softball — and soccer are set at the University of Central Arkansas with games scheduled on Thursday, Friday and today; earlier contests were played on Thursday and Friday while today’s matchups run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The No. 4 Arkansas softball team lost 9-7 to Ole Miss Friday in its NCAA Super Regional opener at home in Fayetteville—forcing the team to win its next two games to reach the Women’s College World Series. They will resume play at 8 p.m. today after a strong defensive effort in the later innings.  4029 News
