  • Ginger, a 3-year-old shepherd-hound mix from Big Paws of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, is ready for adoption as her motherly duties wind down and her friendly nature shines. Prospective adopters can visit the shelter to meet her and learn more about her new home.  5 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visual artists in Northwest Arkansas can apply for the 21c Artadia Award of $15,000 from Artadia. Applications will open on Monday, June 15 for 30 days for artists who have lived locally for at least two years and are at a key career moment (residency required).  5 News
  • Maya Angelou, known as the Black woman's poet laureate, was honored in Arkansas — her legacy celebrated with a 1993 induction into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame and a 2017 induction into the Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • University of Arkansas School of Law student Brock Conklin has been named editor-in-chief of the Journal of Food Law & Policy for the 2026-27 academic year (he served as a staff editor), an honor that recognizes his leadership and dedication to food law and policy.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • A $100,000 donation from Jane McMullin’s estate has established the Land of Opportunity Scholarship for financially needy students in Independence — Jefferson counties, easing college costs and providing academic support. The scholarship honors McMullin’s legacy by linking qualified Arkansans to mentorship and career resources.  University of Arkansas
  • Fayetteville Public Schools is offering free lunches for kids 18 and under from June 1 to July 31 (except June 19, 29 and July 3), served weekdays at Owl Creek Elementary, American Legion, Yvonne Richardson Center and St. James Missionary Baptist Church during mid-morning to early afternoon.  Fayetteville Flyer

  • Fayetteville’s park planning team invites residents to a workshop today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the stub-out near North Magellan Lane and West Oldham Drive to help design a new neighborhood park near Owl Creek—covering 1.5 to 2 acres—featuring playground areas, trail connections, and preserved natural spots.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Tight end George VanSandt, who committed to Arkansas in April, has reopened his recruitment after receiving an offer from Oregon on May 7 — pushing the Razorbacks' 2027 class to eight commitments.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas men’s basketball wing Billy Richmond will return to the Razorbacks after testing NBA Draft waters to keep his college eligibility. His decision, reported by CBS Sports yesterday, comes as the NBA Draft nears in late June — his choice keeps his future with the team in focus.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Consultants suggested changing ticketing to boost Razorbacks athletics revenue last week. Athletics director Hunter Yurachek said at SEC Spring Meetings on Wednesday that the model may hurt sports with strong donor support and noted recent reseating plans raised donations.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas baseball players had downtime in Fayetteville after a 12-day road trip and departed Baum-Walker Stadium Wednesday on two buses headed for the Lawrence Regional at Hoglund Ballpark.   • Arkansas football released kickoff times for its three games under coach Ryan Silverfield, with North Alabama at home on Sept. 5 at 3:15 p.m., Utah on Sept. 12 at 9:15 p.m. Central, and Georgia on Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. on ABC (athletics director Hunter Yurachek warned of short rest).  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
