COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents near the proposed Owl Creek park met with city Parks and Recreation officials on Thursday, May 28 to review three design plans plus share concerns over a parking lot and trail lighting. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is set to open soon at 2345 N. College Ave in the former Burger King building. The second location in Arkansas could open on Thursday, June 11 and will offer 48 rotating flavors including non-dairy + vegan options.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Walmart will host its annual employee celebration and shareholders meeting next week in Northwest Arkansas. Employees will tour the Bentonville headquarters and enjoy a free concert at Bud Walton Arena (location in Fayetteville) while shareholders join a virtual meeting on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Tyson Foods CEO Donnie King will step down in October at the end of the fiscal year – board member Jeffrey Schomburger, who starts on July 1, will take over as CEO on Oct. 4. This leadership change comes as the company aims to continue its growth strategy.  NWA Business Journal

  • Arkansas film and music organizations are joining forces (celebrating local talent and boosting tourism) in two events. The first is a documentary screening at the Eureka Springs Blues Party Saturday, May 30, and the second is a filmmaker forum at White Water Tavern on Wednesday, June 3.  4029 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington County Mental Health Court honored its first graduate on Thursday at the Historic Washington County Courthouse. The 14-month program required therapy, medication, and stable living conditions to help the participant dismiss a felony charge and move toward a productive future.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Washington Regional Medical System announced Thursday (May 28) it is restructuring to eliminate 86 jobs as part of efforts to counter rising labor and supply costs. The Fayetteville-based system said patients will not experience disruptions in care.  4029 News

  • Players and coaches from Arkansas & Missouri State practiced in heavy rain Thursday at Hoglund Ballpark to get ready for today's NCAA tournament game at 5 p.m. in Lawrence, as Kansas & Northeastern plan later matchups while teams brace for possible wet turf.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas women’s track and field advanced 12 Razorback athletes on Thursday in the NCAA West First Rounds and will run in eight events again Saturday at John McDonnell Field — the team aims to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas golfer Reagan Zibilski, who helped the Razorbacks reach the final four at the NCAA Championships earlier this week, earns a spot on the Epson Tour for the rest of 2026 and all of 2027 after a top 10 finish in the LPGA Collegiate Advancement Pathway.   • The No. 6 Arkansas men's golf team will begin play at the NCAA Championship today at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
