CRIME NEWS

  • Grant Hardin, a 56-year-old former police chief and inmate, escaped from North Central Unit on May 25 and remains at large as multiple agencies search for him in northwest Arkansas + local officials have doubled the reward for tips to $20,000.  5 News
  • A Rogers man pleaded not guilty at Washington County Circuit Court on Friday to murder and firearm charges linked to an April 29 shooting in Springdale that killed a Marianna man — the court case continues.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • A Fayetteville man—accused of robbing the same convenience store twice in one day—pleaded not guilty to robbery charges Friday in Washington County Circuit Court.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fayetteville is inviting proposals that use up to $1.599 million in HUD HOME Investment Partnership Program funds to support affordable housing activities, including rental housing, homebuyer assistance, rehabilitation, tenant rental help, and support for Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs). The request for proposals (RFP) opens tomorrow, June 1, and closes June 26, with a selection committee set to review and possibly interview applicants.  City of Fayetteville

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Arkansas Razorbacks began their College World Series run at Baum-Walker Stadium when coach Dave Van Horn—concerned by recent defensive struggles—started Aiden Jimenez against North Dakota State at 2 p.m. The team also announced its football schedule with an opener on Aug 30 at Razorback Stadium against Alabama A&M, a Sept 6 game at War Memorial Stadium versus Arkansas State, and a Sept 13 SEC opener in Oxford set for the early evening.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Kids will race in the Ozark Foundation's Oz Kids Crit Championship Series on June 21 in Fayetteville on a closed-loop course in the Upper Ramble. Children aged 2 to 10 will get race numbers plus prizes for the top three finishers on a curvy hard-surface course.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Catcher Ryder Helfrick was moved to the cleanup spot Friday and hit a perfect push bunt while stealing a base to help the Razorbacks win six to two over North Dakota State at Baum-Walker Stadium — the win moved Arkansas into the winners bracket of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional.
