BUSINESS NEWS

  • On May 18, a hailstorm hit Sta-n-Step Blueberry Farm in Fayetteville, leaving almost no blueberries from its usual 1,200-gallon yield. Owners Les and Cathy Dozier applied fungicide to the plants and said they hope the crop will recover by next season.  5 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Grant Hardin, 56, who was serving a 30-year sentence for murder and had pleaded guilty to a 1997 rape, escaped from the North Central Unit on May 25 (around 2:55 p.m.) and local law enforcement are using every resource to find him as victims and officials recall the pain his crimes once caused.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Municipalities in Washington and Sebastian counties are making progress cleaning up damage from the May 19 tornadoes that hit Northwest Arkansas—residents and officials report that debris removal at homes, businesses and public sites is ongoing despite secondary flooding slowing some efforts. Local governments are coordinating repair work and seeking further funding to cover the rising costs from property damages.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arkansas passed new laws to improve care for mothers and babies after years of high death rates—measures include the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Act which funds doula services and care workers. The laws let pregnant women get Medicaid sooner, require breastfeeding coverage, and add $4.2 million to boost care coordination and training—steps aimed at saving lives.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Matt Jones and Anthony Kristensen said the Razorbacks won 12-1 over Creighton and explained how Arkansas now is in the driver's seat for the Fayetteville Regional—promising a strong path ahead.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas' Razorbacks beat Creighton 8-3 late Sunday at Baum-Walker Stadium — Gage Wood struck out a career-high 13 batters to secure the win.
