EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three students from the Fay Jones School were named to Metropolis magazine's Future100 list for their strong academic work and creative design skills. Their selection—recognizing talent in interior architecture and design—places them among North America's top emerging designers.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Molly Rawn is hosting a community conversation on homelessness and housing solutions on Sunday, June 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Parish Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church (224 N. East Ave) where residents, advocates, and service providers will share ideas to guide planned support efforts as the city prepares for an upcoming encampment sweep on university property.  City of Fayetteville
  • Trinitas Ventures filed a lawsuit against Fayetteville on May 30 after its proposal for a 185-unit student housing project on Dickson Street was rejected by the Planning Commission on April 14 and by the City Council on May 20— the developer claims city officials did not follow the Unified Development Code and will ask a court to approve the project and grant damages.  4029 News
  • Legislators cleared two rules on Wednesday to improve Medicaid coverage for pregnant women, including presumptive eligibility (allowing coverage during application processing) and ending bundled payments to separate reimbursements for prenatal and postnatal care as part of the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Act. The rules will move to the Legislative Council’s Administrative Rules Subcommittee (with estimated costs of about $1.6 million and $38 million for the new processes) before full council review later this month.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Up Campus Student Living, Dwell Design Studio and Fayetteville architect Robert Sharp propose a new student-housing project on the U-Ark Theater site and will hold a public input meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday in the theater lobby—residents are invited to share their opinions before any design is drawn.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • The NCAA Fayetteville Super Regional features two-thirds of the Golden Spikes Award finalists including Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy, Tennessee left-handed pitcher Liam Doyle, and Florida State shortstop Alex Lodise. USA Baseball will announce the winner on June 21 at the College World Series—Aloy is now the Razorbacks’ second finalist in as many seasons.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
