COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Fayetteville is relaunching its summertime movie series this month with free Movies In the Parks events and low-cost Dive-in Movies for all ages in local parks and at Wilson Park Pool. Dive-in Movies will show Moana 2 on June 27 and a Minecraft Movie on July 18 while Movies In the Parks will feature films like Jumanji on June 20—tickets for Dive-in Movies start at $1 in advance.  City of Fayetteville

  • Los Angeles-based Sweetgreen will open its first Arkansas restaurant in Fayetteville at South Yard on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.—It will open later this year, and a second location will debut in Bentonville at the new Walmart Home Office.  NWA Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The University ordered homeless people camping on its 19th Street property to leave by Monday+ citing safety concerns and reports of criminal activity. Mayor Rawn scheduled a meeting on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church to discuss ways to support the affected individuals.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • At a Planning Board meeting in Fayetteville, neighbors protested a planned wedding venue on Black Oak Road and cited concerns about traffic hazards and safety, but the board approved a conditional use permit for the Gulley Ranch LLC project—citing the owner's property rights.   • After an early pool loss, the Fayetteville Bulldogs won the 12th Lumber One 7 on 7 Showcase on Thursday with a 34-8 win over Bryant — quarterback Hank Hendrix threw for 160 yards and multiple touchdowns while safety Kyndrick Williams made a key interception to secure the victory.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Fayetteville’s Mark Brissey was named the Gatorade Arkansas Baseball Player of the Year. He posted a record of 7 wins and 0 losses with a 1.01 ERA and 80 strikeouts and hit .375 with 3 home runs, 28 RBI and a three run shot in state semifinals—showing his skill as a two‐way player.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Fayetteville fans will see the Tennessee versus Arkansas NCAA baseball super regional start Saturday at Baum-Walker Stadium, where the record-setting Razorbacks host the defending champions.
