  • A Fayetteville woman died and a man was injured when a Toyota struck a horse on Interstate 49 near Gravette on Thursday—authorities are investigating the early morning crash.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • On Friday morning, Walmart Inc. held its 55th annual associate celebration at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville with new company greeter Jimmy Fallon hosting the event. Fallon joked about his brief time as a Walmart employee while playing games and singing an acoustic song — The Killers opened the performance and Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner said he regretted that those outside the arena could not share the experience.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Artist Mark Rebillet, known for his spontaneous looping songs, will perform at JJ's Live in Fayetteville on Thursday, Nov. 6 as part of his tour Places I’ve Never Played and Will Never Play Again. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. next Friday, June 13.  Fayetteville Flyer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new study published in Crop Science examined large patch—a fungal disease that creates brown patches on warm-season turf like bermudagrass and zoysiagrass. Researchers from the U of A, including lead author Samuel Kreinberg who ran tests in Fayetteville, say proper watering and mowing will help fight the disease and advise residents to submit samples to the local Plant Health Clinic if needed.  University of Arkansas

  • Heavy spring rains helped local gardens grow fast but also brought more weeds, mosquitoes, and plant diseases—gardeners are urged to weed often, remove decayed fruit, and check for soft spots on vegetables. They are harvesting cool-season crops now and will soon plant warm-season vegetables while pruning and fertilizing shrubs to boost next year’s blooms.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
