BUSINESS NEWS

  • Queen Donuts will soon open in a bright pink building at 2227 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd on south Fayetteville. The new shop offers donuts, breakfast sandwiches, kolaches — bubble tea and smoothies, and will operate daily from 4 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Fayetteville Flyer

CULTURE NEWS

  • Japanese Breakfast, the Grammy-nominated indie pop act led by Michelle Zauner, will perform at the Momentary's outdoor stage this fall on Sunday, October 5—ticket prices range from $57.90 to $149.70. The band previously played in NWA and will return with its dynamic live sound to the venue.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • The City of Fayetteville will hold a public celebration for the new 100-foot mural on Nelson Hackett Boulevard created by nationally recognized street artist NTEL. The event will take place on June 18 at 11:30 a.m. at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center garden (174 S. Washington Ave.) with remarks from Mayor Molly Rawn, Arts and Culture Director Joanna Sheehan Bell, and NTEL.  City of Fayetteville
  • The Arkansas Repertory Theatre will open Yazmina Reza’s 'God of Carnage' Tuesday, June 17th, with the play running through June 29th—its one-setting narrative shows two sets of well-to-do parents discussing an off-stage playground fight after one 11-year-old lost his front tooth.  Arkansas Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Seven Arkansas families with children in public schools and civil liberties groups sued Fayetteville schools on Tuesday to block a state law that forces every classroom and library to display the Ten Commandments. The lawsuit claims the law violates parents’ First Amendment rights and will take effect on Aug. 5—if a judge does not issue a temporary block.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fayetteville hosted a blood drive on June 11 on the downtown square from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—donors received a free Naturals T-shirt and a voucher for two games as the city worked with the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks to keep blood supplies strong.  Fayetteville Flyer

  • Fans gathered in front of Baum-Walker Stadium on June 11th to cheer on the Arkansas baseball team as they headed for the College World Series in Omaha. Coach Dave Van Horn and the players took photos and signed autographs — sharing a moment of local pride before the trip.  5 News
