- ➤ Seven Arkansas families filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville to block Act 573, a law that requires every public school classroom and library to display a specific version of the Ten Commandments. They filed a motion for a preliminary injunction Thursday to stop the law from taking effect on Aug. 5 — arguing it violates their First Amendment rights and creates a coercive school environment. - ➤ Fayetteville City Council will consider a measure to open a safe camp on a city-owned 13-acre site for up to 40 unsheltered residents at its June 17 meeting, using $630,000 from the general fund—an interim strategy following safety concerns after a local university vacated a wooded property. The council will also review proposals for fee disclosure in leases, a chief housing officer position, and a 15-member renters council—steps aimed at addressing ongoing housing challenges.
