ECONOMY NEWS

  • Christian Schubert and Scott Lafontaine released research showing that milled rice improves flavor and extract yield in nonalcoholic beer brewed with Saccharomycodes ludwigii. Their study aligns with Arkansas House Bill 1491, which offers incentives for using local rice in brewing—suggesting local brewers may soon boost efficiency and reduce costs.  University of Arkansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A University of Arkansas study led by mechanical engineering assistant professor Neelakshi Majumdar surveyed nearly 200 pilots who lost control in flight and found that mistakes such as low air speed and poor weather judgment contributed to many general aviation incidents. The research suggests that flight simulators could help pilots build recovery skills — a step that may lower future crash risks.  University of Arkansas
  • Abigail Bordelon and Isabella Sotlar—both U of A Class of 2025 graduates—won Fulbright awards that will let them spend the next academic year abroad. Bordelon will work as an English teaching assistant in Spain while Sotlar will study the rule of law in Italy.  University of Arkansas
  • Four University of Arkansas TRIO Talent Search students traveled to Washington, D.C. for the five-day National Student Leadership Congress where they joined a mock congress, met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, and built leadership and public speaking skills — the experience is expected to open doors for future opportunities.  University of Arkansas
  • Dhruvi Bhatt began her master’s in information systems focused on cybersecurity at the University of Arkansas after a friend at Walmart Home Office praised its strong business links—she earned her degree in May 2024.   • The One Book One Community 2025 campus read is Deep Kindness - a book by Houston Kraft that will be featured in fall events on campus, including a keynote on Nov. 17 and a luncheon on Nov. 18.   • On June 28, 2025, Taylor Long led 30 birders on an Audubon field trip at Mill Branch Park in Goshen where they heard a yellow-billed cuckoo and spotted woodpeckers along mowed trails and over a creek. The 111-acre park—featuring meadows and forests—is located 0.4 miles east of downtown Goshen on Arkansas 45 and will be featured in NWA Outdoors in July.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
