CRIME NEWS

  • Police have issued an arrest warrant for an 18-year-old man—Rodney Lamont Tillman Jr.—accused of firing four shots at a Springdale apartment complex on July 7 and wanted in connection with an April Marianna shooting that injured two people.  4029 News
  • Selvin Jeovany Coc-Choc, accused of raping and impregnating a 14-year-old near Rogers, pleaded guilty on July 7 after his charge was reduced to second-degree sexual assault—he will serve a 20-year sentence with credit for 223 days in jail and must register as a sex offender.  5 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas received a $1.2 million gift from three alums to create the Dr. T.A. 'Mac' McGilvery, Karen R. McGilvery and Maurice F. Storm Field Experience Endowed Chair for field-based geosciences learning - the university is now seeking extra donations to reach a $1.5 million goal so students can gain more field experience.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The University of Arkansas is accepting applications for its Executive M.B.A. program at Sam M. Walton College of Business until Saturday, July 19. The program lets working professionals learn while they work with in-person classes held one Saturday per month on the Fayetteville campus — including online instruction between sessions.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville’s city council voted 8-0 on Tuesday to approve a resolution of intent to set aside up to $450,000 from the general fund for homelessness efforts. The resolution does not fund a specific program and follows a June vote that rejected a $630,000 safe camp proposal — city officials say staff are meeting with nonprofit groups to shape further proposals.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • On Tuesday, a federal appeals court issued an order that allowed Arkansas to enforce its ban on delta-8 and other hemp-derived products—prompting Attorney General Tim Griffin to warn that business owners could face criminal charges. The Department of Finance then began advising retailers—ensuring they remove the banned items from their shelves.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Former Fort Smith Northside pitcher McLane Moody was chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 15th round of the MLB Draft on Monday afternoon.
