- ➤ John Gallagher of the School of Social Work led a count on Jan. 30 that found 507 people experiencing homelessness across Benton, Carroll, Madison and Washington counties, up from 412 last year. The count showed that 259 individuals were unsheltered and local groups such as Genesis Church helped improve data collection—pointing to both a rise in homelessness and better measurement techniques. - ➤ Markell Cox, a senior at U of A majoring in music education, said he was inspired by singing in his church choir from second grade and playing saxophone from sixth grade. He credits his mentors and service in Greek Life and as a Student Success Guide for preparing him to teach choir at Riverview High School in Searcy after graduation—an opportunity to pass on his love of music.
