BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Dallas investment company paid $31.8 million for duplexes + condos in Farmington that include 38 duplexes, 12 condos, and 148 units just off Broyles Street. The development features a community pool + is located across from Pop Williams Elementary School.  5 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thirteen schools were named Schools of Conservation Leadership at a July meeting by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, with three local Fayetteville schools among the winners. The schools completed various conservation programs—earning plaques and a three-year prize package from a grant provided by Entergy to support their efforts.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge ordered an expedited bench trial for an inmate who fought his transfer to a West Virginia federal prison last month — the trial is set before the end of the year.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin's office filed a motion on Monday urging a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit that seeks to stop the Educational Freedom Account program because the plaintiffs lack standing and fail to state claims under the state and federal constitutions. The filing added that the suit's claims of favoring a particular faith and unequal treatment do not hold since the program treats all private schools equally and Governor Sanders has no direct role in its enforcement.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Protect AR Rights—a coalition of non-profits—received approval Monday from Attorney General Tim Griffin to collect signatures for a constitutional amendment that would protect citizens' right to petition. The group must gather 90,702 signatures across 50 counties by July 3, 2026.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The folk school founders plan to leave the country and propose transferring management to nonprofit Ozark Folkways while the city commission discussed changes to the $1-a-year lease at the historic Walker-Stone House. Commissioners reviewed the proposal and potential sale options—further details will be discussed at the meeting on Aug 25 at 2 p.m.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • The U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a 2009 law that limits non-poll workers to assisting no more than six voters with their ballots and reversed an Aug. 19, 2022 district court ruling—state officials said the rule helps protect election security. The court ruled that Arkansas United of Fayetteville did not have standing to sue under the Voting Rights Act.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • UA announced that eight former student-athletes will be inducted into the 2025 UA Sports Hall of Honor in a ceremony scheduled for Sept. 26 at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville — the night before the Razorbacks meet Notre Dame at 11 a.m. inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The group includes a posthumous honor for former football quarterback Ryan Mallett.  NWA Business Journal
