CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Fayetteville local attorney Tony Pirani was found liable by a federal court jury Monday evening and was ordered to pay over $14 million in damages after he joined a scheme that recruited grieving families at funeral homes as clients for wrongful death lawsuits following a fatal tractor-trailer crash. FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Taxpayers in Arkansas now have more time to file since the state moved the tax return deadline to December 3 due to spring storms that affected all 75 counties. This change comes after an earlier extension to July 31 and requires filers to attach an IRS form (AR-2025-03) to their returns to avoid penalties. Arkansas Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new Arkansas law forces Fayetteville City Council members to attend meetings in-person unless a disaster is declared—prompting the council to propose repealing its virtual attendance rule at the Aug. 5 meeting. The public can still join via Zoom during meetings and public comment sessions. Fayetteville Flyer
- ➤ Today, the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission is reviewing the lease for the historic Walker-Stone House as Folks School operators plan to leave the country in September and request transferring the lease with a five-year extension to Ozark Folkways. Some commissioners, including Chairman Elvis Moya, favor setting market rent due to financial concerns — while others defend the Folk School's community role; additional details on expenses and repair costs will be discussed at the August 25 meeting at Town Center. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
