BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tyson Foods said on Monday its third quarter sales grew to $13.88 billion with a net income of $61 million, even though its cattle market faced tough headwinds. The company raised its sales forecast for the fourth quarter as gains in chicken, pork and prepared foods helped offset its beef segment losses — a sign of a resilient operation.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Hall released the schedule for public meetings from Aug. 4th—8th, with Monday's sessions having been held, today's bid opening at 2 p.m. in Room 101 and City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. in Room 219 on Zoom underway, and Wednesday's Urban Forestry Advisory Board meeting plus Thursday's Planning Commission session and Youth Advisory Council meeting set to occur while no meetings are planned for Aug. 8th.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Fayetteville officials are seeking 10 registered voter volunteers to fill vacancies on local boards and committees including the Animal Services Advisory Board, Public Library Board of Trustees and Planning Commission - applicants must provide proof of residency if needed and submit a new application for each position by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • A federal judge blocked Act 573, a law that would have required every public school classroom and library to display the Ten Commandments until a lawsuit by seven Arkansas families is resolved. The judge stated that forcing students to view a religious message is unconstitutional—stopping the law until the case is decided.  5 News
  • Today at City Hall in Room 219, Fayetteville City Council previewed key agenda items including a 15-member renters advisory council, amendments to tree preservation easements, and tabled appeals on rezoning near Center Street and University Avenue as well as an airspace vacation at South University Avenue. Council members voted 8-0 to table these proposals and will later consider renewing water and sewer service contracts with the City of Johnson and rezoning the Apple Seeds property on Old Wire Road—steps designed to support local housing and infrastructure improvements.  Fayetteville Flyer

  • Blood donors will join local first responders at the fifth annual Boots, Badges and Bandages Blood Drive on August 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Town Center — 15 W.
