- ➤ The 126th Tontitown Grape Festival started Tuesday night with a carnival at 5 p.m. and a grape stomp with live entertainment at 7 p.m., and wristbands cost $32 from Tuesday through Thursday and $37 on Friday and Saturday. The festival will include an Italian spaghetti dinner on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; bingo at 6 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday; a coronation for the 126th Queen Concordia on Friday at 8 p.m.; and Saturday festivities beginning with a Run for the Grapes 5K at 7 a.m. and a carnival at noon — inclement weather is not expected to affect the event — with free admission, parking and entertainment throughout. 4029 News
- ➤ The Sundays on the Square event will be held downtown on August 24 from noon to 4 p.m. as a back-to-school celebration featuring live music by Lariat and Maud Crawford + a Razorback pep rally, a Slow Roll bike ride at 3 p.m., local art, food vendors, and free admission. Fayetteville Flyer

- ➤ A judge determined that Noah Lee Cargill is mentally fit to stand trial after he fled a traffic stop and crashed head-on into a car that killed David Michael Pemberton on Jan. 16; Cargill faces charges of first-degree murder and more while he is held on a $750,000 bond at Washington County Detention Center. - ➤ A new idea says that switching from single-member districts to proportional representation (like many other countries do) could end gerrymandering and give every vote a fair chance. Experts believe Arkansas might lead this change by amending its state constitution through a citizen initiative. Arkansas Times
- ➤ The City Council denied the developer Core Spaces’ appeal for a 312-unit student housing project that would have replaced 37 apartments — the move came after concerns related to affordable housing and neighborhood fit.
