- ➤ A Washington County woman won $50,000 when her $30 lottery ticket at a Murphy USA gas station in Fayetteville paid off on Aug. 4. She said she was in disbelief at her win and plans to use part of her prize for a vacation. 5 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fayetteville City Council voted 5 to 1 on Tuesday to reject Core Spaces' rezoning appeal for a planned student housing complex on 3 acres south of Center Street between Hill and University avenues. Residents opposed the plan—citing concerns over lost historic buildings and increased traffic—and the council will not reconsider the decision. Fayetteville Flyer
- ➤ Fayetteville will switch to a single-cart recycling program next year and raise fees after the City Council approved the change on Tuesday. City staff plan to start the transition in early 2026 as a study found the all-in-one system is safer for drivers and cuts costs — some residents voiced concerns about the fee hikes.
