CULTURE NEWS

  • International artist Leon Keer began painting two large murals in downtown Fayetteville as part of an 84,000 public art project—one mural on the library parking deck features an augmented reality component while the other at the Town Center parking deck is executed in his signature 3D style. Painting will continue through Aug. 23 and a talk with Keer is scheduled at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Fayetteville Public Library.  Fayetteville Flyer

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fayetteville-based AcreTrader was acquired by Minneapolis-based Proterra Investment Partners on August 12, leaving local jobs intact—its team will now operate under Proterra to expand its farmland investment platform. The move will allow Proterra to scale AcreTrader’s offerings and broaden access to farmland investing.  NWA Business Journal
  • The U of A is realigning its offices and centers to boost the state’s economic impact by merging units into new departments—combining research, workforce development, and business support. The realignment moves the Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research and Workforce Development to the Office of the Provost, shifts Technology Ventures to Research and Innovation, and places business development centers with the college to support growth.  University of Arkansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tuesday marked the first day of school for nearly 10,000 students in Fayetteville—almost half of whom rode the bus—and Superintendent John Mulford said the district ensured safety and a positive start for both students and teachers.  4029 News
  • The University of Arkansas welcomed the Class of 2029 with A-Week, a series of campus events from Monday through Sunday that offer academic, social, and historical experiences. The activities include a hunt for a hidden golden cardinal — a contest where a student must bring it to the Student Engagement Office by Friday at 5 p.m. to claim a $500 prize package.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • Tim Cavell, a professor at U of A, was elected incoming president of the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and will lead the board to support research and training for child mental health+ his appointment marks a new phase in the society’s leadership for clinical child psychology.  University of Arkansas
  • The Honors College has opened applications for the First-Generation Mentoring Program to help first-generation freshman and sophomore students by pairing them with caring faculty mentors. Students can apply until Friday, Sept. 12 or when all spaces are filled—faculty and students will be notified by email.  University of Arkansas

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bobby Petrino said the Razorback offense improved after Tuesday's practice and he is confident they will be productive as Taylen Green leads a refreshed unit with new linemen and receivers.
