CRIME NEWS

  • Fayetteville police arrested Joseph Floyd (48) on Friday for a robbery on the 3800 block of North Mall Avenue in north Fayetteville, where just before 7 p.m. Thursday he entered a business, brandished a weapon, and demanded money, and he is held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas invested $90,000 to expand its Economic Mobility Hub to Northwest Arkansas by partnering with Conexión de Negocios Latinos and the Walton Family Foundation. The program runs through October and will offer 25 women entrepreneurs bilingual workshops and a $1,000 unrestricted grant upon completion—boosting local business support.  NWA Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The nationally ranked Speech and Debate Society invites all active undergraduate and graduate students to its first meeting of the semester tomorrow from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Giffels Auditorium, Old Main—where a mock debate round will introduce new and experienced competitors.  University of Arkansas
  • Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders named Aaron Abbott as a new member of the state Board of Education to help implement the LEARNS Act. Abbott, who worked in higher education and served at the University of Arkansas—Fayetteville, will serve until June 30, 2032.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Dr. Susan Patton and Dr. Robert C. Patton have created the Patton Nursing Science Day Endowment—a $150,000 gift for the University of Arkansas' Eleanor Mann School of Nursing that will cover planning, travel, and marketing for the annual event. The endowment will support nursing research and interdisciplinary collaboration so that Nursing Science Day continues to improve healthcare across the state.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Northwest Arkansas National Airport and Highfill officials reached an agreement on Monday afternoon that ended years of court fights and will let the airport break away from the city while the city keeps collecting sales taxes on airport property for water and sewer bonds until December 31. Both sides agreed to drop pending lawsuits when a final order is entered, with more paperwork expected by the end of August—marking a clear compromise.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • An 80—acre farm in western Benton County near Gentry sold for $6.65 million to buyers Za Chawn Lian and Biak Hlei Hnem of Washburn; the sale priced the land at about $83,125 per acre and was supported by a 19-year loan from The Citizens Bank.  NWA Business Journal
