CRIME NEWS

  • A Florida couple who once ran a Fayetteville business pleaded guilty to defrauding pandemic relief loan programs and received combined sentences of over nine years in federal prison—Julia Youngblood got one year and three months while Fawaad Welch got eight years and one month, with both ordered to pay over $6 million in restitution for diverting loan funds for personal use.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arkansas Music Week will take place in Fayetteville from Sept. 14 to 21 and will bring free concerts, workshops and a keynote convention that unites music leaders and local fans—organizers include Arkansas Music Experience, Experience Fayetteville and the Downtown Fayetteville Coalition. The week-long festival is set to celebrate Arkansas’s musical heritage with events held at local venues and the Fayetteville Town Center.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • The Washington County Fair kicked off Tuesday in Fayetteville—Arkansas' oldest fair that offers livestock shows, carnival rides and classic fair food—and will run through Saturday with gates opening at 10 a.m. daily. Families who have long attended and newcomers will enjoy expanded exhibits and extra food options on a very hot day with fans and ice to help keep cool.  4029 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAMS has partnered with local health care institutions and the Alice L. Walton Foundation + Mercy and Washington Regional Medical Center to expand its Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist program to Fayetteville starting in fall. The program will add 18 student seats over five years and use digital health tools along with community-based clinical training to meet growing local health needs.  NWA Business Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville extended its curbside food waste pickup pilot program through the end of the year after collecting 11½ tons from single-family homes — residents receive a 5-gallon bucket and a month of free biweekly pickups as the waste is turned into nutrient-rich compost.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville City Council voted 8-0 Tuesday to adopt a firefighter bill of rights — a law that protects firefighters during disciplinary actions, investigations, and political activities.
