- ➤ U of A alumna Becca Ohman has been named executive director of Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs after serving 12 years as garden director; she will lead new projects & enhance the gardens' community programs and educational outreach. University of Arkansas
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Researchers at the University of Arkansas compared a bone ash test with a faster digestibility test to measure how well chickens use calcium in their feed. The study shows that these tests could help poultry producers adjust feed levels to reduce feed conversion losses — saving millions in revenue. University of Arkansas
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Arkansas launched a new website today that explains rules for using artificial intelligence in teaching, research, and other academic work. The guidelines were created by working groups of staff and faculty — the site will soon add details on how to get approved AI tools. University of Arkansas
- ➤ The Sam M. Walton College of Business at the U of A announced a $10 million gift from Doug and Shelley McMillon to create an endowed studio fund—this money will pay for a new space that helps students build business skills and solve real-world problems. The college said the innovation studio will continue to support creative thinking and address future challenges. University of Arkansas
- ➤ The U of A is offering new funding opportunities for students and faculty through its Service Learning Initiative—eligible individuals can receive up to $1,500 for travel, materials, or publication while full-time instructors may earn $4,000 for course design. - ➤ University of Arkansas professor Christopher Estepp was named the first Bumpers College Dean's Fellow and will work with college leadership to improve the Razorback AgCademy program that gives high school and community college students affordable online agriculture courses—he will update course offerings and test new strategies to boost faculty participation. - ➤ The College of Engineering held its annual Biggadike Innovation Grant Teaching Assistant Workshop on August 11-12 to prepare 41 teaching assistants for the upcoming academic year—faculty led sessions on roles, active learning, online tools, safety, and more while participants earned certificates for their efforts.
