  • The City of Fayetteville will host the 3rd annual Welcome Fayetteville event on Sunday, Sept. 14 from noon to 4 p.m. at Arvest Plaza—where neighbors can enjoy interactive games, giveaways, and free face painting while learning about city programs.  City of Fayetteville

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Today a 72-year-old Ozark man named Vernon Patton was attacked by a bear while working on his land near Mulberry Mountain Lodge—about 2 miles north of Cass—and he was flown to Washington Regional Medical Center for surgery before a planned transfer to UAMS, with his family saying he is not expected to survive.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Fayetteville police placed officers Jason Bailey and Joseph Burns on paid administrative leave after they exchanged gunfire with 42-year-old Brandon J. Poulter at The Cliffs apartments Sunday at 11:54 a.m.—the suspect was killed during the standoff and both the Fayetteville Police Department and Arkansas State Police began investigations.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The U of A Service Learning Initiative is seeking a social media management intern for a paid role that requires 5 to 10 hours of work per week—applications must be submitted via Handshake by Sept. 19 with work starting on Nov. 3. The intern will manage posts on several social media platforms and engage with faculty and students.  University of Arkansas

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A state-financed air quality study found that Eco-Vista Landfill is not the source of harmful chemicals or foul odors in Tontitown's air. The study recommends probing the sewage system as another potential cause — a step that may guide further investigation.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arkansas Razorbacks will travel to Oxford on Saturday at 6 p.m. to face No. 17 Ole Miss after a 32-point loss last season and an embarrassing defeat that now fuels their motivation.   • Phillip Lee left last Saturday’s 56–14 win with a rib injury but said he feels good after treatment.
