- ➤ On September 11, emergency personnel, military service members and UA community members climbed 110 flights of stairs at Razorback Stadium to honor first responders from the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center—organized by the university’s Air Force and Army ROTC programs. - ➤ Residents will be able to get two free trees or shrubs during Fayetteville's 27th annual Celebration of Trees giveaway on Oct. 11 — city staff and the Urban Forestry Advisory Board will give away 1,900 plants at the Spring Street Parking Deck and the Farmers' Market on the Historic Downtown Square with proof of residency required. - ➤ Residents in Fayetteville will get two free trees or shrubs during the city's 27th annual Celebration of Trees on Oct. 11 starting at 7 a.m. at the Spring Street Parking Deck and Farmers' Market on the Historic Downtown Square. Proof of residency is required to claim one of the 1,900 native plants given out on a first-come, first-served basis — the event honors Arbor Day and helps grow local urban forests. - ➤ Robert Locke, a familiar Arkansas music writer, has started the Arkansas Music Experience to unite artists, venue owners, promoters and businesses to boost the state’s music scene—this initiative will spur local events. Arkansas Music Week, a free series of over two dozen events including a fireside chat on September 18 at George’s Majestic Lounge, will begin on Sept 14. Fayetteville Flyer
- ➤ The University of Arkansas Inspirational Singers, Inspirational Chorale and Arkansas Gospel Chorale will perform In His Safety at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Faulkner Center — led by Grammy-winning music director Jeffrey Murdock who returns after a one-year teaching fellowship at Cambridge. The concert features works by Take Six, Anita Wilson and Donald Lawrence and tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for students, faculty and seniors. University of Arkansas

- ➤ The Service Learning Initiative will host events to show how service learning connects classroom work with real-world impact — it will hold a free lunch on Sept 17 at GEAR 258 for Honors students, a drop-in Honors Recess on Sept 18 at GEAR 130, and an Experiential Learning Fair on Sept 24 at ARKU Connections Lounge. - ➤ A federal judge extended a preliminary injunction that blocks the state law requiring Ten Commandments posters in Conway Public Schools until the lawsuit is decided. Judge L. - ➤ Mackenzie Maddry, a 19-year-old heart transplant recipient from Bella Vista, will appear in a Hallmark Christmas movie later this year as an Abbott HeartMates ambassador—she shared her story of using an LVAD to support her heart while waiting for a new transplant.
