- ➤ Downtown Fayetteville bars are working to become safe places for those who have overindulged by using active bystander training offered by the SAFE Bar Network—Pinpoint on Block Street received free training about a year ago—and others plan similar measures. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ Arkansas Music Week began on Sept. 14 in Fayetteville—this local festival brings daily concerts, workshops and networking events at various venues until Sept. 21. Organized by Arkansas Music Experience, Experience Fayetteville and the Downtown Fayetteville Coalition, the week features shows at Fayetteville Square, Kingfish and Prairie Street Live. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Northwest Arkansas Community College will offer community classes this fall including a baking workshop Nuts About Honey with Chef Ana Saenz on Wednesday for $65 and an oil-free cooking class on September 29 with Dr. Michael Henderson and Chef Michael Drazsnzak for $90—all for people aged 14 and older. The college will also host design classes on its Bentonville campus, one on October 2 to make a ceramic spooky kitty for $40 and another on October 18 for building a farmhouse coffee table for $125 per family. - ➤ Six graduate students in the Master of Public Administration program at the University of Arkansas have been named recipients of the prestigious Raymond W. Gosack Scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year. The award, funded by a $500,000 estate gift from alumnus Ray Gosack, will support their education and public service careers. University of Arkansas

- ➤ Fayetteville will add a four‐way stop at the intersection of West Maple Street and North Gregg Avenue beginning Thursday as part of a project to improve walking safety, fix drainage, and slow traffic near a historic railroad bridge. The city is funding the work with a $7.5 million federal grant and matching contributions from local partners to rebuild the half‐mile stretch from Razorback Regional Greenway to Garland Avenue. - ➤ Fayetteville Mayor Molly Rawn named Marlee Stark as the city’s first chief housing officer and director of Housing and Community Services after the City Council approved the new role on June 17. Stark, a local native who previously led economic initiatives, will drive key housing projects – working with the Economic Development Department – to improve housing options. - ➤ The University of Arkansas is offering free hearing tests to all faculty, staff, and students in October at the Epley Center for Health Professions in Fayetteville—tests check hearing history, examine the ear canal, and include a tone test that shows how well you hear. University of Arkansas

- ➤ Fayetteville is set to enjoy Wooo Pig Weekend from Friday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 28 with a full schedule of tailgating, pep rallies, and fireworks on Friday that lead to a historic Razorback game vs. Notre Dame on Saturday. Fans can join pregame festivities and wrap up the weekend with softball and volleyball games on Sunday — where live mascot Tusk will make a special ride — as the celebration continues. - ➤ Arkansas Coach Sam Pittman said the Razorbacks will not let their 41–35 loss to Ole Miss shake their focus as they prepare to face unbeaten Memphis on Saturday—he stressed the team will learn from the game and correct errors. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
