COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Northwest Arkansas residents have been invited to share feedback on regional growth during the eight-day Growing Home NWA Roadshow, which runs from September 17 to 24 and includes 17 focus groups on housing, infrastructure, transportation and open space. A meeting at Centerton City Hall took place on September 17 and additional sessions at Fayetteville Farmers Market and Springdale City Hall are scheduled — the input will guide a strategy set to be recommended in early 2026.  NWA Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Research by professor Ashutosh Bhave at the University of Arkansas found that companies that teach customers about complementary add-ons may protect their profits when rules force them to allow third-party options—his study shows that shoppers who know about extra costs help firms set fairer base product prices.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Experience Fayetteville CEO Ryan Hauck is on paid administrative leave after three employee complaints alleged he made offensive remarks and created a hostile work environment—complaints that include claims of inappropriate language and bias. The Advertising and Promotion Commission will meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. at City Hall to review the internal matter while Hauck says he will not comment until the investigation is complete.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • On Tuesday, Sept 16, Fayetteville's City Council approved a new fund from franchise fees to support nonprofits fighting homelessness. The council allocated $150,000 to New Beginnings for expanding its cabins and $70,000 to the Salvation Army to match a federal grant—unused funds will return to the general fund.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Attorney General Tim Griffin said a June news release by Mayor Molly Rawn shows Fayetteville broke Arkansas’ sanctuary cities law and may lose state funds—Rawn stated the city never had a written sanctuary policy and must now show evidence of law compliance to restore funding.   • Fayetteville Mayor Molly Rawn has appointed Marlee Stark as the city’s first chief housing officer and director of the newly renamed Department of Housing and Community Services to lead a stronger focus on affordable housing programs. Stark, who previously led the Economic Vitality Plan and supported local housing initiatives, will use her experience to expand housing options and build key partnerships.  NWA Business Journal

  • In week 3 of prep football, Fayetteville beat Texas High 40—38, Southside routed Southwest 35—7, and Greenland edged Green Forest 20—14 while Mountainburg won 28—27, Elkins defeated Harding Academy 30—24, Lamar beat Heber Springs 28—7, and Lee’s Summit North stayed undefeated with a win over Bentonville.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
