COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Transit and Parking Services will host a tailgating event from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 in Lot 500 to help students move vehicles away from athletic lots ahead of Saturday’s game — guests will enjoy free food, energy drinks, games and giveaways while Razorback Transit will run until 10:30 p.m. to return students to campus, and additional events are planned for upcoming games. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayetteville celebrated 60 years with a service—potluck and cake were part of the event held on Sept. 21. The church started in 1965 with 24 people and is known for its annual pumpkin patch and community gardens that help those in need. 5 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ In the 25th Annual Delta Scholarship Golf Classic held on July 17 at Village Creek State Park in Wynne, the tournament raised over $27,000 and awarded 11 scholarships to crop science students for the 2025-26 academic year—coordinated by U of A faculty and staff. Since 2000, the event has raised more than $550,000 to fund 240 scholarships in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences. University of Arkansas
- ➤ John Blakinger, director of the Art History program at U of A, will teach the Honors Signature Seminar Crafting the Cold War this spring to explore how art shaped political messages and culture during the Cold War. - ➤ The U of A announced its Employees of the Year for 2024-25, honoring Caleb Hatz, Yakeshia 'YaYa' Jenkins, Jonathan Khanty, Ali Williams, and Jeremy Bowerman for their work on campus operations. - ➤ The U of A Career Studio launched new services today that include VR mock interviews and employer takeovers scheduled for Sept. 25 and Oct. 7—these updates come with extended drop-in hours from Monday to Thursday at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday at 9 a.m. to noon—to support student career development. - ➤ The University of Arkansas is accepting nominations for the 2025 Disability Awareness Awards until Oct. 6 to honor those who promote campus accessibility+inclusion. The in-person awards event will be held at Arkansas Union on Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. University of Arkansas

- ➤ Samuel B. Fernandes, an ag scientist at the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, received the New Innovator in Food & Agriculture Research Award—nearly $450,000—to fund his team's work on a new crop yield model that links plant growth with weather changes; his research will improve how scientists predict crop performance under varying conditions. - ➤ BridgeArkansas, the University of Arkansas student organization, hosted its Civic Carnival with Democracy Fellows last April at Union Mall—drawing over 250 students—and earned the Best Large Event Award at the BridgeUSA Summit in Indianapolis. - ➤ The Northwest Arkansas Council proposed a three-county regional industrial development authority—designed to finance large real estate projects that will attract businesses, create jobs, and boost tax revenue in our region.
