- ➤ Tanmaie Kalapala, a poultry science Ph.D. student, has received a Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education 2025 Graduate Student Grant to study safe methods for converting waste into feed and fertilizer—she worked with assistant professor Tomi Obe on the project 'Frass Forward: Transforming Waste into Sustainable Feed and Fertilizer.' - ➤ The U of A will host a full slate of cybersecurity events throughout October, starting with Cyber Day on Oct. 1—held at the International Connections Lounge at the Arkansas Union from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—and featuring interactive games that highlight risks like identity theft and scams. Additional events include a virtual game-show on Oct. 9, a webinar on Oct. 14 with Lisa Plaggemier, another webinar on Oct. 21, and an in-person talk on Oct. 24 at ADSB Room 240. - ➤ The Fay Jones School will host Trail Mix, a three-day symposium and workshop on sustainable mountain bike trail design from Oct. 3-5 on the U of A campus and nearby Fayetteville trails. Participants will join panel discussions, hands-on sessions and group rides—supported by local partners and the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation—to explore eco-friendly trail building. - ➤ A portion of West Center Street between University Avenue and the Razorback Regional Greenway crossing will be closed for sewer work starting Monday until Oct. 17, with possible delays due to weather—barricades and signs will be placed at key intersections. Access for properties from South Gregg Avenue remains available via a south route—traffic will adjust during construction. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Fayetteville announced a $320 million bond issue on Sept. 26 to invest in water, sewer, parks, fire, roads and other community services—two-thirds of which will fund water, sewer and transportation upgrades. Mayor Molly Rawn said the city council will vote in October on placing the bond items on the ballot for a March election. NWA Business Journal
- ➤ Starting Monday, Sept. 29, a section of W. Center Street between University Avenue and the Razorback Regional Greenway will be closed for three weeks for sewer work—access to Gregg Avenue will remain available from the south and drivers should use extra caution; work is set to finish on Friday, Oct. 17 but may extend due to weather or other issues. - ➤ A golf tournament will be held on Oct. 3 at Paradise Valley Athletic Club to benefit drug court and veterans treatment court programs in Washington and Madison counties. The event will begin with registration and lunch at 11:15 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m.—local community members and businesses are invited to support recovery efforts. - ➤ Overnight lane closures will occur on MLK Jr. Boulevard at the Interstate 49 interchange next week as crews remove the northbound I-49 bridge, ADOT said. Traffic will use a signed detour (westbound drivers go north on I-49 to Wedington Drive and eastbound drivers use I-49 south to Cato Springs Road) from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday. - ➤ UAMS and the ALS Association recently opened the first Northwest Arkansas clinic for ALS at the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus in Fayetteville, supported by a $424,542 Hoffman Clinic Development Award—led by Dr. Rohit Dhall. The clinic will offer multidisciplinary services including neurology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and clinical research coordination to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. - ➤ The Prairie Grove boys and the Shiloh Christian girls won district championships in a weather-shortened 4A-1 golf tournament held Thursday at Highlands Golf Course in Bella Vista. Individual medal honors went to Shiloh Christian’s Holden DeWeese—who shot a 2-under 34—and Gravette’s Teagan Muldoon, placing them in the state tournament on Oct. 7. - ➤ The Arkansas Razorbacks will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish today at Razorback Stadium with kickoff at 11 a.m. Game day festivities begin Friday night with tailgating at 5 p.m.—with a pep rally at 9 p.m. and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.—while HogTown opens this morning with live music along Maple Street and tailgating starting at 6 a.m. 4029 News
