EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Arkansas' Razorback Food Recovery program received the 2025 School/College/University Recycler of the Year Award for its work in reducing food waste by recovering 9,245 pounds of food over the summer—its student-led team partners with local outlets to support food needs in Fayetteville. - ➤ The University of Arkansas Speech and Debate team competed at Mendoza Debates at Lee College in Baytown, Texas over the weekend. Percy Blaich won first place in the novice speaking award and Austin Keefe earned first in the varsity award—their next contest will be on the second weekend in October at Mississippi State University Starkvegas Tournament in Starkville. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Leaders in the Arkansas General Assembly have urged the U.S. Senate to pass a measure that will keep the federal government open for seven weeks and prevent a shutdown. They said swift action is needed to avoid disruptions in federal services. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Fayetteville’s Advertising and Promotion Commission approved a long-term lease for the Walker-Stone House with Ozark Folkways on Monday — the five-year deal starts Oct. 1 with the first year ending in 2025 and later years set at 10% of net income until Sept. 2030. Commissioners also reviewed a request from the Downtown Fayetteville Coalition for three more years of funding — a change that will help the group become independent with a vote set for Oct. 27 at The Stonebreaker Hotel. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The nearly $20 million Cobblestone Farm Community opened at 5526 W. Wedington Drive, offering 89 fully leased rental units ranging from one to four bedrooms to households earning 30%-60% of the local median income + local partners and an $850,000 Affordable Housing Program grant helped complete the project. Developers plan to work with the nearby nonprofit Cobblestone Farms to provide a free community garden in the future. NWA Business Journal

- ➤ Fayetteville will host the 37th Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Oct. 3—4 with races including the Tom Lewis 1 Mile Pepper Dash and 4K and 8K events for both families and competitive runners. - ➤ Fayetteville appeared in the New York Times Connections: Sports Edition puzzle on Sept. 29—players sorted 16 clues into four groups of four, and the sports-themed game added a fun twist a day after Arkansas football was in the news. Fayetteville Flyer
