- ➤ Fayetteville Falltoberfest is set for Sunday, Oct. 5 from noon until 6 p.m. on Dickson Street—this free festival will feature live music on two outdoor stages with acts scheduled throughout the day, local food, craft beer, a Dogtoberfest pageant, and a Mr. Oktoberfest competition. - ➤ On Tuesday night in Tontitown, local church members attended a training hosted by the USCCA to learn how to spot threats and improve safety measures at worship places—such as setting up emergency plans and identifying safe rooms—and they hope these steps will better protect their congregations in times of crisis. 5 News

- ➤ Walmart held an event at its Bentonville headquarters on Sept. 25 that brought more than 300 experts together to review skills for an AI-driven future. The company has launched training for truck drivers and maintenance technicians and will offer an AI skills program next year in collaboration with OpenAI—CEO Doug McMillon said the effort is meant to help workers adjust as jobs change. 5 News

- ➤ University of Arkansas researchers say that features on Mars support the idea that an ocean once covered its northern area—graduate student Cory Hughes compared river rocks on Mars with those from a river in Northwest Arkansas to back up his findings. University of Arkansas
- ➤ Julie Hill, a faculty member at the College of Education and Health Professions, was chosen as one of four panelists for next month's ACES conference in Philadelphia after her brief on integrating disability into counselor education was selected from 34 submissions. She will join a panel discussion to share innovative teaching methods—boosting counselors' skills to work with individuals with disabilities. University of Arkansas
- ➤ The Honors College is launching Fall 2025 Honors Forums with courses that explore AI legal challenges, evolving psychiatry, the impact of Frank Lloyd Wright on Fay Jones' designs, and the World Cup's history — students must register soon as seats are limited and one course requires an application. - ➤ The Northwest Arkansas Land Trust announced it will permanently protect a 62-acre cattle farm on Beaver Lake and a 45-acre forest with 1,100 feet of stream near the headwaters of the Middle Fork in Hazel Valley, Washington County. The conservation easements will let the farm remain in use and secure water quality while landowners and the Beaver Water District support long-term stewardship—fostering vital conservation efforts in the region. - ➤ The Skyline report released on Sept. 30 showed that over 5,000 homes were sold in the first half of 2025 with new construction making up more than a third of the sales. Home prices rose nearly 9% in Benton County and over 7% in Washington County — and mortgage lenders advise buyers to act quickly as strong demand and low rental vacancies keep prices high. 5 News

- ➤ The Fayetteville Lady Purple Bulldogs swept every match to win the Lori Endicott Invitational on Saturday in Willard, Mo.—they defeated teams from Eldon, Carthage, host Willard and Marshfield without dropping a set. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Three players—Adam Auston, Carnell Jackson and Ari Slocum—de-committed from UA after coach Sam Pittman and three defensive assistants were fired following a heavy loss to Notre Dame, prompting them to reopen their recruitment. - ➤ At Blessings Golf Club on Monday, Arkansas teams led the sixth annual Blessings Collegiate Invitational after one round with the men’s Razorbacks posting a 5-over 293 for a six-stroke lead while the women’s squad recorded a 2-over 290 for a seven-stroke advantage.
